RE: Information on Napa Valley Expo RV Park

bikeendan, Do you live right across Silverado Trail from the Expo? If so, I heard your bike when we were staying at the park over this past weekend. Boy, is it loud!!! We had the fifth wheel with the tall blue lights. As you mentioned the park was full during our stay. As soon as someone left there was another person pulling into the empty site. The park is very nice and well maintained. The expo grounds makes a great place to walk the dogs without any traffic. I would recommend it for anyone visiting the Napa area. no, my "bike" is the kind you have to pedal! i have about 6 of them. but, i do have a few neighbors in our area with very loud Harleys. i drove by, looking for a Titanium rig. i think i remember seeing your blue lites. glad you enjoyed your stay. this is one of the prettiest times of the year here in the valley. hope you got out and did some sightseeing.

RE: locking wheel chocks

Was going to buy a set of Bal locking chocks, but don`t have 21/2"between the wheels.Have looked online at Camco Wheel Stops and Ultra Fab Wheel Locks, could find no customer review.I`m looking for a little imput on which is better. The Forum has helped in the past. ROO 23B. TomKath the Roo's generally have very little gap between tires for a chock to fit. i also made my own out of 4x4 wood. it cost me about 1 hour of time and $12 in materials. that's for both sides. not sure if the Camco's will fit either. i do know that Rotochoks are the best and they have ones that fit. but you have to pay a high price for the best.

RE: Cold weather sleeping

please remember the OP was asking for suggestions that DON'T need a/c power, like ceramic heaters and electric blankets/mattresses. we use sleeping bags and thermal underwear, just like we did when we were tent camping/backpacking.

RE: New TT, A Few Questions :-)

just to add a couple more. unless you use the heater constantly, you won't have to worry, unless it isn't full. also, don't expect much of a charge from your tow vehicle.

RE: But what about the 1500 watt champion? (1200 watt rated)

What is the good and bad on the smaller, lighter 1500 watt surge, 1200 watt rated champion, seems like it would be a good size for those that wont be running their air, any owners of this unit with feedback. i think the price difference between the 1200/1500 and the 35004000 is so small, that it makes more sense to get the bigger one. i've seen only a $50-$100 difference at the local Kragen Auto stores.

RE: Winter camping-fresh water tank

is the tank outside or inside? if it's inside, like ours, the inside heat will keep the tank from freezing. all the lines are on the inside too. if it's on the outside or you aren't using any inside heat, you'll have to ask for someone else's opinion.

RE: Bigfoot Industries in Trouble??

this is very sad for the DW and I.:M we had hoped to buy a Bigfoot 35STin a couple of years when i am fully retired. it was the best floorplan of any Class C that we've looked at, for the 2 of us. it was also an extremely well-built unit. maybe there will be some used ones out there when the time comes.

RE: Slideout Awning

Does anyone know the width of the slide out of the Roo 23SS? The trailer is all wrapped up for the winter, and all the spec. are inside. the slide is 144", i think. i had to buy the 150" A&E awning from CW. it's a long slide awning and costs a lot more than most.

RE: Sportsman Series 1500 generator ???

I know that it is not a Honda, but I saw an ad in Joe's that they have this generator that is advertised as super quiet, for $329. I have noticed that the Honda's are a little higher. I hate generators, but keep putting more and more solar panels on my roof, and still find that in dark rainy days, they still don't work. I am just looking for a little quiet one to charge the batteries with so I can watch a movie at night after a crummy day. Has any one tried these generators? Mike for those of us that don't live in your area, what is "Joe's"? is it a store, website or catalog?

Guess Camping World is doing well!

found out that the CW serving the north SF bay area is moving. it's in Fairfield, now. but early next year, it's moving farther east, over 10 miles, to Vacaville. now it's even closer to the one in Sacramento. they are building a whole new building and will have a RV dealership also. i guess they didn't have room at their current location to sell RV's. they could have taken over a brand new Ford dealership that closed, that's located only a couple of miles away. in the current economy, it's seems like a waste of money. but i guess my President's Club membership is helping!!:R

RE: Information on Napa Valley Expo RV Park

just a clarification. Napa Valley Expo RV park is in the city of Napa. this is in the south end of Napa Valley and is closer to the San Francisco Bay. it is at the Napa Valley Expo Fairgrounds. Napa County Fairgrounds RV park is in the city of Calistoga. this is in the north, at the opposite end of Napa Valley, about 25 miles north of the other RV park. it is closer to some of the better known wineries. but farther away from the SF Bay Area and major connections to other places.

RE: Newbie needs some help

having lived in SoCal for over 35 yrs., i know that living in Castaic will involve a lot of driving in mountains. that said, the Pilot should be able to pull the Export. but you and the Pilot won't be happy, especially climbing the Grapevine. and never believe a dealer! most will recommend a minimum towing capacity of 5000lbs. to tow even the smallest hybrid. Pilots are great for popups but a travel trailer is a different thing. not saying you can't but you will probably end up upgrading your tow vehicle. the critical thing will be tongue weight. especially if you go with water, propane and 2 6V batteries. if you boondock or don't have hookups, the 6V is the way to go (unless you buy a generator) and they will add to the tongue weight, since they are taller and have heavier plates. you'll definitely need a WDH but the good ones have built-in sway control, such as the Equalizer and Reese Dual-Cam.

RE: Is an extended warranty a good purchase?

Been discussed to death here. The answer is no. so right! the overwhelming answer on the Forum is NO! i bought the 2nd year factory warranty from Forest River for an extra $100. i wasn't interested in any thing past that. i felt that most of what could go wrong would happen within the first 2 years. and because most of the expensive things: appliances, a/c, axles, converter, rubber roof, tent ends, fiberglass walls, hubs, furnace, water heater, etc. have their own manufacturer's warranty. like 12 years for the rubber roof. and 5 years for the tent ends. but for the few that do buy, it's because they don't want to have concerns for future issues. and for some, any price is worth that piece of mind.

RE: Information on Napa Valley Expo RV Park

i live across the street from the Expo. they have done a lot of improvements there. seems like they are nearly full all the time now. it's in a great location, near downtown Napa, Copia, the river and the Wine Train. it's also near the new Oxbow market, next to Copia. it's also next to the Silverado Trail, that takes you up the less traveled east side of Napa Valley and is a much nicer and scenic drive than Highway 29.

RE: Owning HTT's in the Pacific Northwest

this issue isn't any different for those that own popups. and i've seen a lot of popups in the NW. it's actually easier to deal with wet canvas on a hybrid, compared to a popup. with a popup, there's a lot more canvas to get wet and you have to put it in wet to slide in the beds and lower the roof. with a hybrid, you just take out the mattress and towel the canvas from inside. and it'll dry more on the trip back since it's open inside. NW dealers talk about problems with hybrids and claim that's why they don't carry them. but they'll sell you a popup in a second. we live in NorCal but will be moving back to Washington in a couple of years. we still plan to have our Roo and continue camping.

RE: a question for all you fellow leaky hybrid owners

Oh, my goodness!:E based on some comments on this forum, the Roo is supposed to be the only hybrid with leaks in the front bunk!:?

Measurement for Atwood power jack install on 23SS

i'm looking at buying either a Ultra Fab or Atwood jack. i'd prefer the Atwood, since i have bikes on the rear of the TV, and the motor on the Atwood is on top of the tube. but i don't know if it's too high to clear the open bunk end. i don't have the Roo at home, it's at the dealer 40 miles away. so, if someone could measure the distance between the mounting area on the tongue and the bottom of the opened bunk end, i'd be grateful. Chuck, do you already have the measurements somewhere?

RE: Buying new or used???

We are moving up from a pop-up to a 19' Shamrock Hybrid. We found the exact same 2007 model with most of the same options for $3500 less than a 2009 model. What does everybody think? options missing are: no Ipod stereo input (a big deal) no outside speakers (i can install them myself, not a big deal) no RVQ grill NO WARRANTY you need to post a similar question on the Hybrid forum. you'll get better help/info there. what is the actual prices? you live close enought to RVWholesalers and RVDirect to buy from them. they have the Rockwood Roo, which is exactly like the Shamrock, except for outside graphics and fabrics. they set the standard on prices to compare with. RVW has a '09 Roo 19 with warranty, grill and outside speakers for $13,167. the '09 Shamrock/Roo has an improved front bunk seal system. but i have an '07 Roo and am very happy with it. so if you are saying that the Shamrock is under $10K, that's a good price. but i'd pay the extra for the newer rig.

RE: Salinas to Los Angeles

i would cut over to I5 on highway 126, out of Ventura. that way you bypass the Grapevine and you get to see some beautiful coastline from Gaviota to Ventura, including Santa Barbara. 126 comes out at Magic Mountain, in Valencia, on the I5. this is just north of the San Fernando Valley.

RE: Slideout Awning

i made the mistake of not getting one installed before i picked up my 23SS. we thought we wouldn't need one. but after a year and a half of camping in state parks, we realized we needed to get one. because the 23SS has such a long slideout, it picks up all kinds of debris. and the seals get residue on them and they cause the slide to stick to the side of the trailer, when trying to slide it out. after having to pry the seal away to get the top of the slide to detach away and having to get on a ladder and sweep it off, i gave in to getting an awning. it would have been cheaper to get one installed at the factory or dealer, before picking it up. we went with a A&E from Camping World. it isn't as good as a Carefree but a lot cheaper. it cost us a little over $400, installed. because it not a deep slide, the awning is less prone to drooping.
